Chimney Installation Techniques
Chimney to roof level
Chimneys for wood burning stoves are fairly standard. The chimney construction starts above throat level, and consists of a flue liner (usually of clay, but sometimes of firebricks in Canada) surrounded with brickwork. Each section of flue should be fitted as you progress, and the brickwork built up around it.
The minimum internal flue size in the UK is 185mm for square linings, and 200mm for round linings. This is suitable for stoves and roomheaters, and for open fires with openings up to 500mm square; larger open fires should have larger flues. In Canada, minimum flue sizes for roomheaters are 150mm for round flues and 200mm for square ones; but open fires must have flues at least 225mm diameter if round, or 200mm x 300mm otherwise.
Start at the top of the throat and fit the first flue section in position. Then construct a brick box, of the required thickness, around this lining. Tie the box into the wall as you progress, either with metal ties or by chopping out bricks from an existing brick wall on every second or third course. To join sections of clay liner together, use fireclay cement or a 1:3 cement/sand mix.
The liner need not touch the chimney brickwork (and in Canada, if the chimney walls are less than 190mm thick, it may not do) but the space could be filled with a 1:1 cement/ vermiculite mix to provide additional thermal insulation.
Continue upwards in this way until you reach roof level. Once the chimney is complete as far as the roof, make good the ceilings and floors. Note that floorboards, architraves (mouldings) and so on usually do not count as combustible material’ for the purposes of the regulations about clearance distances.
Building on the roof
You should not start work on the roof without making sure that proper safety precautions have been observed. A securely tied ladder or scaffold tower as well as a crawler board attached to the ridge are essential pieces of equipment.
Continue the chimney above roof level using the same techniques as you used below. Where the chimney passes through the roof, the slates or tiles need to be carefully replaced and the flashing firmly fixed all around the brickwork).
Finish the brickwork so that the chimney pot can be positioned at the regulation height above roof level. The top two courses should project – or oversail the others by 30mm so that rainwater is thrown clear of the brickwork beneath. Alternatively, you could use a prefabricated concrete capping of the type which incorporates a drip groove as well as an oversail.
Mortar the chimney pot into place next. Cut off the metal flue or top flue block as it appears through the top of the brickwork and fit a pot of the same diameter on top. Surround the base of the pot with a DPC of bitumenous felt and on top of this lay a thick, sloping concrete flaunching.

A Few Years Ago I Had a Terrible Moving Experience
A few years ago I had a terrible moving experience. This was the first time I have needed to move in over 20 years. I recently got a new job and needed to move all of my things to another state. I did end up buying a house, but because of the value of houses, I had to get a smaller house than what I was accustomed to. I had so many things that I needed to move, but I realized they would not fit. I needed to find a local nyc mini storage unit to place everything in while I got my new house situated. I wanted to take most of my things with me, but because of the size of the house I was unable to. Most houses in the state are usually a lot smaller, but cost the same amount of money. I hired movers to move all of my things, but I had so many problems. It’s like they did not even care about my stuff. They were so disrespectful, by the time they were done moving, I had multiple boxes that were broken. Luckily, I left almost all of my valuable things in a local storage nyc unit.
